A virtual reality game that involves the player solving a series of puzzles to steal something. Written for the HTC Vive on Windows.
The player will start outside in a forest, where there will be a door in a cliff-side that needs to be opened. Here the player must find a switch hidden around the door to open it which will involve moving things to reach. This entry point will also serve as a general tutorial and will walk the player through the steps needed to open the door.
Once inside, the player will be presented with three doors, two of which the player can open. These doors will probably have some sort of mysterious portal styling. The third door is styled like a vault door and has two active lights above it. The portal styling is to provide an opaque separator between the two rooms so I can place each room in it's own scene. Hopefully, this will allow a bit more freedom in the number of objects I can place in each room, while maintaining a framerate > 60 fps. From here, the player can move through either door.
Door 1 will lead to a room that has a shooting gallery, a hidden switch, and other style pieces. Players have to search the area to find the shooting gallery's toy gun. This will active the gallery and the player must achieve a certain score. Once that is reached, a hidden panel will open, revealing the switch that the player will press. This will turn off a light above the vault in the main room.
Door 2 will lead to a dark area. Upon entering, a light headlight will be placed on the player as a spotlight attached to the tracked alias. In the room, a maze appears over a large cavern and the room is completely dark, save for a blinking coming from the far end of the cavern (button). Players will have to use the headlamp to plan their path to the button. Transparent walls will prevent the player from teleporting over gaps. Once the player gets to and presses the button on the other side, the maze will disappear behind them and the room will become smaller, so when they turn around the door will be directly in-front of them. Pressing the button will also turn off a light above the vault in the main room
Once both lights above the vault have been turned off, it will open and the player will be able to enter the vault. Inside their will be a diamond behind bars that the player cannot reach. Their will be a series of puzzles involving a combination lock that has a clue hidden in the environment, and hiding items in the environment. Once these are solved, the bars will open. When the player grabs the diamond and alarm will sound. From here, the only place they will be able to go is back to the main room. Upon entering the room, the two doors that were previously open will now be locked with bars over them. Once the player heads back through the entrance door, police sirens will be heard and the player must hide in a bush and wait for a police car to show up, and the policeman to enter the cavern. Then the player can go the the police car and steal it.
I chose this route because there are multiple small things I want to try in VR such as the headlamp navigation, shooting, and hiding but nothing huge that would qualify as a full application. I figured a puzzle game like this would give me the freedom to try different things.
I will be working alone for this project.
